Day 1 – Arrival in Hohhot
Meet your private guide and driver on arrival at Hohhot Airport and enjoy a trouble free transfer to your hotel. If time allows, you may explore Hohhot on a light city tour, with optional visits to the Inner Mongolia Museum, Mongolia Museum, Dazhao Temple, or Saishang Old Street. The rest of the day is free at your own expense before your Hohhot Xilamuren Grassland adventure begins.
Day 2 – Hohhot Xilamuren Grassland and Nomadic Culture
Drive about 2 hours from Hohhot to the Xilamuren Grassland, one of the best-known grassland destinations in Inner Mongolia and a well developed tourism site with easy access from the city. Visit Hongge’er Aobao Scenic Area and enjoy a live performance featuring Mongolian horse racing, archery, and wrestling. Later, go horse riding into the peaceful hinterland of the vast grassland to enjoy fantastic views of the picturesque grassland away from the crowds. In the evening, enjoy a Zhama Banquet with meals listed by your guide, then stay overnight in a traditional Mongolian yurt. Many yurts have basic modern comforts, and some rooms include big windows facing the grassland. If weather permits, a bonfire party may also be arranged.
Day 3 – Local Herdsman's Home and Transfer to Dalad Banner
Watch the sunrise over the grassland, then visit a local herdsman’s home to experience local nomadic life. You may experience milking cows, feeding lambs, making Mongolian milk tea, and learning more about traditional Mongolian customs and everyday nomadic life. On the way to Dalad Banner, explore Wudang Lamasery, one of the four most famous lamaseries in northwest China. Overnight in Dalad Banner for easy access to the Kubuqi Desert the next morning.
Day 4 – Kubuqi Desert Adventure
Spend a full day in the Kubuqi Desert at Resonant Sand Bay, a popular and well developed tourism site famous for its breeze blown dunes and interesting desert activities. Enjoy classic fun such as camel riding, sand sliding, and desert hiking, or try sand surfing, trail bikes, beach volleyball, artistic gymnastics, and other fun activities. For travelers who want more challenging sports, some activity areas may also offer an aerial cableway or other optional programs at your own expense. This is one of the best places in Inner Mongolia for desert adventures.
Day 5 – Ordos City and Departure
In the morning, visit Kangbashi District in Ordos City, once known as China’s biggest ghost city and now a thriving super modern environment with pleasant urban scenery. Then visit the Mausoleum of Genghis Khan, an impressive cenotaph devoted to the worship and remembrance of the founder of the Mongol Empire. After the visit, your English speaking guide and private driver will transfer you to Ordos Airport or Hohhot Airport for your Hohhot departure.
