Your 6-Day Guangzhou and Zhangjiajie Journey

A well-paced Guangzhou and Zhangjiajie itinerary combining Canton culture, Avatar-style mountains, the Glass Bridge, and Tianmen Mountain, with private transfers and flexible travel pace.

Day 1 – Arrival in Guangzhou | Airport or Train Station Pickup

Welcome to Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province and a major gateway to South China. Your local tour guide will meet you at the airport or train station and transfer you to your hotel by private car.

After hotel check-in, enjoy rest time or explore nearby at your own pace. If you arrive early, we can arrange a relaxed Pearl River walk, Canton Tower night view, Beijing Road stroll, or a local restaurant experience with Cantonese dim sum and local snacks.

Start your Guangzhou city tour at the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, one of the best places to see traditional Guangdong-style architecture, delicate carvings, folk arts, and Lingnan culture.

Continue to Qingping Market, a lively local market filled with herbs, flowers, spices, pets, plants, and daily Cantonese life. Then visit the Temple of the Six Banyan Trees, a peaceful Buddhist temple with a long history and an important bronze Buddha statue.

Depending on your interests, you may also visit Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Yuexiu Park, Canton Tower, Beijing Road, or enjoy more time for local food before returning to your hotel.

Take a flight from Guangzhou to Zhangjiajie. It takes about 2 hours to fly from Guangzhou to Zhangjiajie and is usually the best option, as there is no high-speed train directly to Zhangjiajie from Guangzhou.

Upon arrival in Zhangjiajie, your private guide and driver will meet you at the airport or railway station. Then transfer by private car or mini van to the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, the best base for visiting Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.

In the afternoon, enter the national forest park and take a shuttle bus to Tianzi Mountain. Ride the cable car and enjoy panoramic views of towering stone peaks, deep valleys, fresh air, and mountain scenery. The peaks rise in various shapes, creating a dramatic first view of Zhangjiajie’s natural beauty.

After the visit, return to your hotel in the Wulingyuan area.

Spend a full day exploring Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, one of the most famous national parks in China. Take the Bailong Elevator, the world’s tallest outdoor glass elevator, to save time and energy as it rises along a sheer cliff face.

Visit Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, home to Avatar Hallelujah Mountain, the Natural First Bridge, and sandstone pillars that inspired the floating mountains in the movie Avatar. Walk at your own pace and enjoy the cliff views, natural stone bridge, peak forests, and dramatic mountain formations.

Later, continue to Sky Field Garden, a quieter viewpoint with fewer tourists. Here, farmland, cliffs, and mountain scenery meet in a surprising landscape. If time and energy allow, your guide may also include Yangjiajie Scenic Area to see the Natural Great Wall of Zhangjiajie.

Your guide will adjust the route based on weather, crowd levels, visitor caps, and your walking ability.

Today, visit Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, one of the most exciting scenic areas near Zhangjiajie city. The highlight is the Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge, famous as one of the world’s longest and highest glass-bottomed bridges.

Walk across the glass bridge about 300 meters above the valley floor and enjoy thrilling views of cliffs, forest, and the grand canyon below. If you prefer not to walk on the bridge, your private guide can arrange another route in the canyon area.

After the Grand Canyon, relax at Baofeng Lake. Take a wooden boat ride across clear water surrounded by green hills and cliffs of various shapes. You may also hear local minority people singing traditional songs during the cruise.

Return to your hotel and enjoy free time in downtown Zhangjiajie or the Wulingyuan area.

On your final Zhangjiajie day, visit Tianmen Mountain, known as the soul of Zhangjiajie. Take the Tianmen Mountain Cableway from Zhangjiajie city center to the mountaintop. The cable car ride offers breathtaking views of the city center, winding mountain road, cliff face, forests, and high peaks.

At the top, enjoy panoramic views, cliffside walkways, and fresh mountain air. Continue to Tianmen Cave, also called Heaven’s Gate, a natural hole in the mountain reached by the famous 999 steps. If you prefer an easier route, your guide can help arrange the most comfortable way to visit.

If time allows, you may also visit Tianmen Temple or enjoy extra rest time before departure. After the tour, your guide will transfer you to Zhangjiajie airport or train station for your next destination.

Before You Book This Guangzhou and Zhangjiajie Tour

Get clear answers about the route, flight, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Glass Bridge, Tianmen Mountain, best travel time, and private tour arrangements.

Yes. Six days is enough for a well-paced private tour. You can visit Guangzhou’s key cultural sites, including the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall and local markets, then explore Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Tianzi Mountain, Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, Avatar Hallelujah Mountain, Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, the Glass Bridge, Baofeng Lake, Tianmen Mountain, and Tianmen Cave.

Flying is usually the best choice. It takes about 2 hours to fly from Guangzhou to Zhangjiajie. There is no direct high-speed train from Guangzhou to Zhangjiajie, so travelers usually fly, take a slower train route, or travel through nearby cities.

After arrival in Zhangjiajie, travelers can take a bus, taxi, private car, or mini van to reach the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. For this private tour, your guide and driver will meet you at the airport or train station and transfer you directly to your hotel or scenic area.

Tour prices for Guangzhou and Zhangjiajie packages often start around USD 1,199 per person for a private tour, but the final tour price depends on the program, travel date, number of travelers, hotel class, flight cost, meals, room arrangement, and service level. Flights between Guangzhou and Zhangjiajie are an important part of the total cost.

Yes, advance planning is recommended. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Tianmen Mountain, the Bailong Elevator, Tianmen Mountain Cableway, and Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge may have ticket limits or visitor caps, especially in peak seasons. Your local guide will help arrange entrance tickets, shuttle buses, cable cars, and sightseeing routes to save time.

The best time to visit Zhangjiajie is usually from September to November, when the weather is clearer and mountain views are often better. April to June is also beautiful with fresh greenery, but rain and fog are more common. Fog can create a dramatic atmosphere around the Avatar Mountain peaks, while clear days are better for panoramic views.
