Day 1 – Arrival in Chaozhou | First Taste of Chaoshan Culture
Welcome to the cultural heart of the Chaoshan region. Your private guide will meet you at the airport or railway station and transfer you to your hotel.
Begin your journey in Chaozhou Ancient City, where old streets, ancestral halls, and historical sites reveal the long cultural history of the region. Visit landmarks such as Zhenhai Tower, Xu Mansion Hall, and Jilue Huang Ancestral Hall to gain your first impression of Teochew heritage and traditional architecture.
Later, enjoy a relaxed foodie walk along Paifang Street, one of the best places to experience local snacks and the flavor of Chaozhou. Taste specialties such as spring rolls, braised goose, and local rice cakes while soaking up the atmosphere of the old town.
Day 2 – Chaozhou | Ancient City, Bridge, Temple, and Tea Culture
After breakfast, continue exploring the richness of Chaozhou Ancient City and its surrounding heritage.
Visit Longhu Ancient Village, where Song, Ming, and Qing influences can still be seen in traditional buildings, carvings, and decorative details. Then head to Han Wen Gong Temple, one of Chaozhou’s most important cultural sites, and learn about the city’s deep literary and historical traditions.
Continue to Guangji Bridge, also known as Xiangzi Bridge, one of China’s four ancient bridges, and visit the nearby Guangji Gate Tower. Later, explore Kaiyuan Temple, one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Guangdong, known for its architectural beauty and spiritual atmosphere.
In the evening, slow down at Zaiyang Tea House and experience the elegance of Gongfu Tea, together with performances such as Teochew Opera, Teochew music, or local storytelling traditions.
Day 3 – Shantou | Coastal Heritage and Overseas Chinese Legacy
Today, travel from Chaozhou to Shantou, two cities only about 50 kilometers apart but with very different atmospheres.
Begin with Chen Cihong’s Former Residence, a remarkable complex that blends traditional Chaoshan architecture with Western influences brought back by overseas Chinese families. Then explore Shantou Small Park and the surrounding old town area, where colonial-era facades, old arcades, and historic buildings reflect the city’s role in modern maritime trade.
You may also visit sites such as Tianhou Palace, Laoma Palace Stage, and the historic post office area to better understand the city’s cultural convergence. To deepen the local experience, enjoy a hands-on snack-making activity and taste traditional Chaoshan flavors such as rice cakes and regional street food.
Later, take a ferry or scenic waterfront route to enjoy views of the coast, bridges, and local urban life in Shantou.
Day 4 – Nan’ao Island | Sea Views and Coastal Culture
After breakfast, drive across Nan’ao Bridge to Nan’ao Island, one of the most scenic coastal destinations in the Chaoshan area.
Visit the old Zongbingfu site to learn about the island’s coastal defense history during the Ming and Qing periods. Continue to the Tropic of Cancer landmark and then to Qing’ao Bay, where sea, sky, and sand come together in one of the most relaxing parts of the tour.
Later, admire the photogenic Sancongya Lighthouse and enjoy wide views of the coast. This day adds a fresh marine dimension to your Chaoshan and Hakka heritage journey, balancing history with natural beauty.
Day 5 – Jieyang | Traditional Settlements and Local Heritage
This morning, transfer to Jieyang, another important city in the Chaoshan region.
Visit De’anli in Puning, a well-preserved traditional settlement with enclosed walls, courtyards, halls, and defensive planning. It offers a valuable look at communal living, cultural origin, and regional architectural traditions.
Continue to Jieyang Ancient Town to explore historical sites such as Guandi Temple, Jinxian Gate, Jieyang Confucian Temple, Rongcheng Chenghuang Temple, and Zhongshan Arcade Street. Together, these places reveal another side of Chaoshan historical culture beyond Chaozhou and Shantou.
Day 6 – Meizhou | Hakka Culture and Ancestral Traditions
Today, travel to Meizhou, one of the key cultural centers of the Hakka people.
Begin at the China Hakka Museum, the most important museum in China dedicated to Hakka culture. Here, you can learn about Hakka migration, family traditions, architecture, and the global story of Hakka communities, including their links with overseas Chinese history.
Then stroll through older streets to see traditional qilou-style buildings and continue to Renhou Wengong Ancestral Hall, an important Hakka ancestral complex with strong historical and architectural significance. This day offers a deeper understanding of Hakka people, family identity, and the enduring cultural roots of southern China.
After the visit, return for overnight stay.
Day 7 – Departure | Farewell to Chaoshan and Hakka Country
After breakfast, enjoy some free time before your guide and driver transfer you to the airport or railway station for departure.
